More Trees Down!

Full Time Volunteers Isabel and Richard went out with volunteer John Worrell to tidy up the Education Woodland. A few trees have come down, and it needs to be safe for when the school groups start using it again.

Using the pole saw, they took off a limb that was hanging over the fence.

Then it was a steep climb to the top of the woods were a large tree had fallen, and gotten hooked on several other trees.

It took a long while to safely take down the tree, but now the woodland is ready for students to explore again!

Pollarding Trees

Tree Surgeons were in the valley last week pollarding the large ash behind the Tea Room. This involved cutting off all the upper limbs, leaving the main trunk and some larger branches. This sounds tough on the tree, but is done to prolong the life of the tree, and also to make it safer: when bigger branches break off in windy weather they can not only cause damage to the tree but also to property and livestock. The tree will regrow from the stumps very quickly.
